When a BM student enters the new world of fourth year life, one could only expect the whirl wind of researches, and marketing research is just one of them. Soon you’ll realize that you’re just a semester away from graduation. But before fantasizing those images of the marching and gala, let us face reality –the Marketing Research. This is a hands-on experience of handling real business cases from different companies all over Cebu. Deciding what service or industry to take is one of the major decisions my partner and I had to do. We considered its advantages and the disadvantages – from the availability of information, to the connections from the company and the distance from the school. After making everything clear, we finally decided to have Maanyag Salon in Ayala. Our first task was of course to formulate the letter for the owner/manager, Mr. Ruben Magale. Our connection, who happens to be the mother of our friend, helped us by giving some information about the owner and the business. Then I dropped the letter at the main office in Archbishop Ave. one Wednesday afternoon. Then in a few days, we kept on calling the office for follow ups. After we week, we didn’t get a hold of the manager for he only goes to the office at 10:30-12, which we always have a class. What we did was set an ambush interview at 9:30 am. Luckily we caught Mr. Magale on his desk. He truly is a busy person, managing other businesses left and right. We were entertained and infact he gave us a tour in his new spa, salon, coffee shop and internet café building. The initial paper we submitted was only with the information coming from the interview. We had no idea of what other data we can gather which can be beneficial for the study. We surffed the net and search for magazines, but nothing was found about the beauty salon industry in Cebu. It was given back to us the next meeting. The x and the y were already determined for us by our teacher. That’s how she loves us. The X is the sales and the Y is the beauty consumption per household. Then my partner went to SEC and NEDA to find the info we needed. Until now, the paper is still on the process… I am looking forward for the day when we present our study, where we need to look like someone who just came out from a salon.
